Mr. Kumazaki

Mr. Kumazaki farms in the center of Shimukappu and in an area called Soshubetsu. He is devoting special attention to his melons.

Shimukappu has the best climate for growing melons that are high in sugar content,as a result of the wide temperature differences between day and night.

"I want to make a melon that rivals the famous melons of Furano and Yuubari,"he declares. "My wish is to grow an affordable but superior melon."

Mr. Kumazaki's products are available at the village's farmers market.

Kuma-chan's farm stand(Two locations near road stations. Open from early July to early October)

Fresh vegetables direct from the farm are sold at reasonable prices.

Ken'ichirou Eto

After Ken'ichirou Eto graduated from university,he decided to become a farmer. He went on to study at an agricultural university, and finished his training in Saitama Prefecture.

He settled in the KamiTomamu district of Shimukappu in 1996.

Every day you can hear the vigorous clucking of his chickens and the bleating of his goats.

He pastures his livestock In spacious Kami-Tomamu and grows upland vegetables with their manure.
He is trying to realize self-contained,small-scale organic farming.

"I'll keep working hard to improve my products even more," he vows with calm sincerity. He is striving to cultivate agricultural products the way they should be grown.
